From the winter semester 2026/27 onwards, paper-based course evaluations will no longer be offered. All course evaluations will be conducted online from that point onwards.

Over the past few semesters, the proportion of paper-based course evaluations has steadily declined, accounting most recently for only around 10% of the total evaluation volume. At the same time, maintaining and further developing the paper-based evaluation process has required considerable staff time and technical resources, as it had to be taken into account whenever the evaluation system was updated. These resources will no longer be available to the necessary extent in the future. For this reason, we have decided to discontinue paper-based course evaluations and to focus our services entirely on online evaluation.

Our recommendation: Conducting online evaluations during class

A frequently cited advantage of paper-based evaluations was their high response rate. However, our experience over the past few semesters has shown that conducting online evaluations during class can achieve comparable – and in some cases even higher – response rates.

We therefore recommend setting aside time during a class session for students to complete the evaluation on their own mobile devices. All questionnaires provided by us are optimised for use on smartphones and tablets. Another advantage of online evaluation is that invitation links can also be sent to students who were unable to attend the class. This allows them to take part in the evaluation as well, which can further increase participation.

If you have any questions about the transition or about conducting online evaluations, we will be happy to assist you.
